Offshore wind is to the energy industry what the electric vehicles are to the transportation industry; an invisible underdog which is growing into a full-blown competitor.
Why we specialize in offshore wind
Offshore wind is to the energy industry what the electric vehicles are to the transportation industry; an invisible underdog which is growing into a full-blown competitor. According to the IEA, offshore wind installations will increase 15-fold and become a trillion-dollar industry within the next two decades alone. Such a growth requires many new products and solutions, and they need to be engineered today. The incentives for research, development and innovations have seldom been higher, and that creates a thriving marketplace for cDynamics.
How cDynamics works with offshore wind
With an open mindset and varied engineering backgrounds, we provide technical analysis and consultations. Oftentimes it is our broad experience with composite materials or dynamic systems at sea that provides value to our customers. Our team of engineers can take on jobs ranging from concept studies of 10 hours to much larger and innovative projects. We participate actively in writing research proposals, as well as attending industrial and scientific conferences. We believe we provide the highest value to our customers and society at large when we are at the technical forefront. From that position we are best equipped to develop and apply the solutions that are right for our customers.
What we do
Put very simply, we check if X breaks. If it does not break, we document it in line with current regulations, and our customer can take X to the next step in their business plan. If X breaks, we help the customer redesign. X can be a ship, a light-house, or any number of secret projects that we unfortunately cannot brag about.
- When it comes to offshore wind, X is often a dynamic offshore system exposed to environmental loads such as wind, wave, and current. For these projects we use Orcaflex dynamic analysis software, which is excellent when the structure is simple, and the loading is complex.
- When the structure is complex and the loading is simple, which is oftentimes the case with composite ships and structures for example, we use a finite element software such as Abaqus.
- When we encounter projects where for example a wave hits a complex structure, we use a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software such as StarCCM+, sometimes even in co-simulation with Abaqus.
In summary, cDynamics helps other companies capture market share in the growing offshore wind industry by analyzing and improving their products and solutions.
